Had a great time working with Yok Mei. They were patient, responsive and able to walk us through the renovation process which can be challenging. Each time a decision needed to be made, they made it easier on us by providing great recommendations. Our project completed on time which was great as it led to minimal disruption to my family. Will reach out to them again for future projects. Thanks for making our home beautiful!

Yok Mei did a renovation of my kitchen and bathroom. From a far the renovation looks excellent; however, mistakes are noticed upon closer inspection that are unacceptable for the price. 1) Cabinet design The cabinet shown in the photo is only accessible if the refrigerator door is opened first. 2) Incorrect transitions 3) Improper alignment of the tile baseboard and metal trim This baseboard is behind the toilet which is an area prone to moisture. The tile line also does not go into the baseboard. 4) Unprofessional tile cuts near the shower drain The work done seemed incredibly rushed - done with little care and attention to detail. During the demolition, an adjacent wall to a kitchen wall was damaged resulting in a broken painting frame. The kitchen paint job was terrible. Chen fixed the wall and did a paint correction but more problems followed. Chen was only present about half the time and I was left with his employee who does not speak well in English and only does what Chen expects of him. This resulted in a problem when the refrigerator was delivered and the door frame needed to be broken to fit it into the kitchen. I stupidly volunteered to give Chen money to fix the door frame. He did such a poor job that I got another contractor to do the work that he failed to do properly. I called Chen after the renovation was complete to discuss the issue with the tile baseboard. He refused to fix the problem or offer compensation. Chen is incredibly unpleasant to deal with - consistently speaking over me. I would not be writing this review if I would have been treated fairly and with respect. I recently finished corresponding with Chen via e-mail to try to resolve our conflict. I was hoping to post the entire correspondence on Google; however, Google imposes a character limit for reviews. Instead, I will post excerpts from our correspondence to illustrate my points. Chen wrote the following about the cabinet door defect: ...we already ensured that the cabinet door had no obstruction opening when finished installing the refrigerator by setting all the way back. A contractor not knowing that refrigerators should not be placed flush against the back wall is shocking. Furthermore, he wrote: However, should you personally perceive the fit as unduly restrictive or confined, I would be amenable to liaising with my cabinetry supplier to explore potential adjustments. Interestingly, in his last e-mail he made no mention of this and seemingly no longer had an interest in fixing the cabinet door. Regarding the cabinetry, as I have previously explained, my cabinetry supplier did not err in their design. Rather, they optimized the limited space available. I have personally ensured that the side door operates without obstruction, having the refrigerator set all the way to the back. Given that the side door is already of modest size, any further reduction would significantly impede access to an already confined area. Chen was corresponding with me in bad faith - he can not be trusted. A company is judged by how it responds when situations are difficult and unexpected; Yok Mei is a terrible company. Chen does not take accountability for his mistakes, is overly concerned about his bottom line and seems to want to finish a job as quickly as possible so he could move on to the next one. The company rushed the renovation, made many mistakes, damaged items, and showed little regard for valuable items (e.g., our hardwood floor was covered very poorly and construction tools were found directly on it). And now for the most disgusting part of this entire situation: I did this renovation for my elderly mother partly to improve the functionality of the kitchen. Originally, I gave a Google rating of 3; however, this is way too generous for someone like Chen. If you value your time, money, and sanity then stay clear of Yok Mei. Don't be fooled like me by the google reviews - this is not a five star construction company.

Chen and his team did a great job finishing our basement. They were reliable, showed up on time, and communication throughout the project was excellent, especially over WhatsApp. What impressed me most was their responsiveness even after the project was complete. We noticed a few small things afterward, such as a door that needed to be shaved down, and Chen was very prompt in sending his team back out to take care of everything. Overall, we had a great experience and are very happy with the work. Highly recommend Chen and his team!
